Okay, how about we include some of the truest links courses golf can offer and then line up exclusive access to some of the best “Water of Life” known to mankind? Yes, we are speaking of Scotland’s western isles and its treasured single malt distilleries, creating one of the most unique experiences in golf travel.
If we have your attention now, this tasty experience has you flying into Glasgow Airport before going west again. Your experience would begin on the Isle of Islay and end on the Mull of Kintyre, Scotland’s most western peninsula.
Upon arrival, you will be met by your driver and you will journey even further west to Kennacraig for the ferry to Port Askaig on the Isle of Islay. Now, this is where you will find some of Scotland’s well-known Single Malts… Bunnahabhain, Lagavulin, Ardmore, Caol Ila, Bruichladdich, and of course, Islay!
The greatest compliment in being able to spoil your pallet is playing twice on one of Scotland’s finest hidden gems, Machrie Golf Links. To round it off, retire to a newly remodeled country house-style hotel, The Machrie Hotel & Golf Links where you can warm your feet with a real peat-fueled fireplace!
After leaving the Island, you will ferry back to the mainland and continue your journey along the “long and winding road” (Paul McCartney’s inspiration for this song) towards Campbeltown where you will be welcomed by locals of the Village of Machrihanish. This part of Scotland was once known as the Malt Capital of the World when it once boasted as many as 30 distilleries. Today, only 3 remain but don’t fret because after playing both Machrihanish Dunes and Machrihanish Golf Club over your three days here we will not miss a visit (or two) to each of the remaining three distilleries.
Now, this is an experience to brag about to your friends, well the ones that stayed home… yes, definitely their loss!
